May 10, 2026 – Day 8 to Ontario
Today was a very boring and HOT day.
We started out on SR 89a. It was a beautiful rolling road and lots of fun.
Not long into the ride, we stopped at the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park. It was in honor of 19 men that lost their lives fighting a fire that took weeks to put out. They were all from the Prescott community, the town we stayed in last night. I copied off the article that was at the memorial. Hope you take a few minutes to read this.
We talk a lot about our military and what they do and their sacrifices for our country. Men and women like the Hotshots are all over this country: fireman, policemen,... All of them deserve to be thanked for what they do. Please take a few seconds, go over to them, shake their hand and say "Thank you for your service". It only take s few seconds.
We leave and head down the mountain, into the desert.
UGH.....HOT!!! and boring.. Oh wait, I already mentioned that.
Weird though, we saw tons of RV Parks, in the middle of the desert. Nothing around. We tried to figure out why..never really came up with a good answer. Maybe to look as the stars.
Yeah finally get into California.
We did see a farm (if that what you call it) of palm trees.
Again out in the middle of the desert. This make sense, was about 1/2 long.
We head into Palm Springs. I think they should change their name to Windmill Springs. Unless you have gone thru here, you cannot image the 1000s for windmills you pass.
We arrive at our hotel and their is a package for Ron. A little background first. Ron had a minion mascot, Jerry, for years. Last year Jerry left Ron's bike somewhere in Indiana. His wife got him a new one but it arrived after we left. So she shipped it to CA. He got a new one and this one even came with a rain coat (a plastic baggie).
This is part of the raffle rouser team.
Ron and Papa Smurf (Ron's assistant platoon leader)
Rich Boy, Clutch, and Scooter.

More to come tomorrow as we all work on last minute thing.
