May 13, 2023 - Day 7 to Ontario
Today was a good day. Started at about 60 degrees and sunny. All your prayers are working. Keep it up as we have lots of riders still making their way to California.
Word of the day is HOT. Keep reading to find out why.

It is supposed to be very hot today, so we are on the road at 7:00. We continued on Route 89A. It is as good today as it was yesterday.
We were not on the road too long and we rode thru Jerome. Cute little town but narrow streets and all on a hill.
The sign on the building says, "Haunted Hamburgers". Interesting name....
Back on the road.
Check out the road, it has a guard rail, yeah!!!
This pic does not come close to the beauty of what we see.
Check out this fence. It is not the normal wire fence we are used to seeing. This goes on for miles. Someone must have a lot of money.
Turns out it seems to be a horse ranch. Someone owns LOTS of acres and must have lots of money for these fences. The more we drive, the more ranches we see. All with this fence.
We are riding and I say to Larry, there is only one lane. He says, " where did the other lane go?"
We are riding and I say to Larry, there is only one lane. He says, " where did the other lane go?"
Not sure if I was leaning when I took this pic or the mountain was tilted.
Lanes come back together, and we head start getting into the desert. I did not realize the different kinds of cactus. I guess they are all considered cactus. You decide.
Then out of the blue we see what looks like an orange orchard. Really? Perfect rows and spacing. Must be getting water from somewhere.
Then palm trees. And lots of them. We are all used to seeing palm trees line the streets but not acres and acres of them.
More miles and miles of desert. It is definitely getting a bit warm. Mid 90s by now. Looks more like the desert you think of but there are still mountains.
Cross the Colorado river into California.
We are just outside Palm Springs and Ron says the temp showing on his bike is 104.... YIKES!!
AND our elevation is -36 feet. Yes, you read that right, we are below sea level.
Time for a hydration stop. When we got back on the bike at the last stop, the guys commented on how hot the grips were. Ron came up with an idea to maybe help that.
It helped a little but at 104 it was still hot.
Now heading into Palm Springs. We told Ron you will love this part of the ride. Why? he asked. You will see.
Windmills galore!!!!
There are thousands!!! And unlike the ones we normally see going thru Kansas, these are so close together. Makes for a very ugly ride into Palm Springs. In my opinion :-)
It has been nice on most of the roads: two lanes and not much traffic. Now we enter into California, the traffic is crazier the closer we get to Ontario, our destination. 4 lanes and lots of cars.
We will be in Ontario for several days. It is like a family reunion. We will be attending several meetings before we leave on Wednesday.

Route: AZ-89A, AZ-89, AZ-71, AZ-60, I-10
