May 10, 2025 - Day 7 to Ontario
Today we slept in since we had a short day to get to Las Vegas for our stop of the night. I have a few pics to show you from last night. We went to Lonny Boy's restaurant last night.
Here is the family motorcycle. Put the kids on and head out.
Here is grandpa's bike. Steering on this one is a little tricky.
Check out the bathroom from last night. I think the sink was made for kids.
A little tough when it comes to brushing your teeth.
Today was a hot one. We started out at 69. As we left, we saw what looked like a bike race.
They rode around Sand Hollow Reservoir. This is where they did the swim part.
It was the Ironman 70.3 St. George race: 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. Tough in the desert. It was already hot when we passed them. I cannot imagine the run part.
Not much color in the landscape today so Ron helped add color
All of a sudden there was a field with cactus. Then nothing but gray again.
Still great rock formations though.
We stopped for a break since temps were getting pretty high. Sitting outside there was a guy that pulled up in an 1967 Fairlane 500. Larry made a comment on how good it looked. As the conversion went on, he suggested going to Valley of Fire. With no real plans, we headed there. What a great suggestion.
First thing we see are these horses. It is 95 degrees!!! I would imagine how hot it is for the horses.
For all the gray we saw all morning, the red in the middle of nowhere was amazing.
This is Larry. I LOVE the colors.
Ron got a few pics of me taking pics. Kind of funny
Then we head into the loop called Rainbow Trail.
Ok just another loop, same colors. See what you think.
Ron made a comment that in places it looked like a chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream.
As we headed out, we stopped at the visitor center. Beautiful flower on a cactus.
We then passed Lake Mead on the way to Las Vegas.
Hopefully tomorrow we will get a little closer. This is the lake that feeds Hoover Dam.
We left the state park and headed for Las Vegas. It was a little hot, in the 100s. We rode for 1.5 hours and stopped for lunch. Next door from our lunch stop was a DQ. There we met a Vietnam veteran. He was a hoot. We all thanked him for his service, then I thanked his wife for her service to him. They are married for 44 years.
Then he started telling us jokes.
One joke I remember: what are women's 4 favorite animals?
Mink to wear around her neck, Jaguar in the driveway, Tiger in the bed and a jackass to pay for them all.
His wife said he has had 2 strokes and has very little paralysis. One thing it did affect was his short term memory, but his sense of humor never failed. His hat said "Army Strong" and this is so true of all of them.
While in Las Vegas we took in a show. Thanks for the suggestion from Ron's wife. We went to see Brad Paisley. What a great concert.
We will be rolling into Ontario tomorrow and meeting our Run Family.
