May 8, 2025 - Day 5 to Ontario
Today we took a break from riding and played tourists.
First stop is Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon. Amazing rock formations. This used to be a path for the antelope (hence the name) on their migration. The canyon was formed over hundreds of years through erosion caused by water running through sandstone.. Even today when there is flash flooding, the floor of the canyon will rise and fall with the deposit or washing of the sand. It depends on the height of the water.
In 1997, Navajo tribes made it a Navajo Tribal Park. This is a sacred site for the Navajo people and this can preserve the site. It is a place to see.
If you look close, there is a log stuck above, This came in with the 2023 flash flood.
This pic was take by our guide. It is from the light from above the canyon and the lines in the sand stone wall.
If you have been to monument valley, this is the iconic figure you see. This picture is looking up from the canyon floor straight up. Beautiful colors.
Look real close at this. Does it look like a rabbit? (ok use your imagination)
Check this out. Looks like a seahorse. This is an opening in the top of the canyon.
