 May 8, 2025 - Day 5 to Ontario

Today we took a break from riding and played tourists.

First stop is Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon. Amazing rock formations.  This used to be a path for the antelope (hence the name) on their migration. The canyon was formed over hundreds of years through erosion caused by water running through sandstone..  Even today when there is flash flooding, the floor of the canyon will rise and fall with the deposit or washing of the sand.  It depends on the height of the water.

In 1997, Navajo tribes made it a Navajo Tribal Park.  This is a sacred site for the Navajo people and this can preserve the site.  It is a place to see.

All the horizontal lines are from the sand as it brushes against the wall during flooding.

If you look close, there is a log stuck above, This came in with the 2023 flash flood.

This pic was take by our guide.  It is from the light from above the canyon and the lines in the sand stone wall.

If you have been to monument valley, this is the iconic figure you see.  This picture is looking up from the canyon floor straight up.  Beautiful colors.

Use your imagination. Looks kind of like an antelope.

Turn it sideways and you get a heart. Pretty cool.

All from the sandstone walls formed as the water goes thru.

From here we go to lunch at a place called the Bird House.  Great Chicken !!!!
There we met 2 air force pilots out of San Diego.  One had 19 years service and is currently in the reserves and the other had 29 years.  We thanked them for their service.  It is amazing how quickly a conversation can happen.  Remember to "Thank" them.  It is very simple.

Next stop, the Lower Antelope Canyon.
Lots of the same formation just a little tighter walk way.

5 sets of ladder/steps to get into the canyon

Look real close at this.  Does it look like a rabbit? (ok use your imagination)
This is called the windy lady.  Beautiful colors.

Check this out.  Looks like a seahorse.  This is an opening in the top of the canyon.

Back up steps to exit .....

..... and out a crack on the ground.

Next we head down the road to the Horseshoe Bend Overlook

The Colorado River goes around .

The rim is 1000 feet to the river, 270 degree horseshoe-shape around.

Last stop of the day was :

This is where Lake Powell is.

We ended the day with a beautiful sunset.
