August 12, 2025 Marysville MT to Olympia WA
Forgot to show this from the other day. Pretty funny.
As we were getting ready to leave and check out, a guy came into the lobby with a wallet and a cell phone. He found it on the road near where he worked. He picked it up. I was laying open with credit cards and money hanging out of it. The cell phone had the Quality Inn number on the front. The owner had tried to call it earlier to see if someone found it. The driver by chance called the hotel and to see if the owner was truly there. The owner was soooo relieved that it had been found. Truly a "random act of kindness". "Pass this onto someone today" was his comment.
Today temps were 62 and a beautiful sunny day.
Sun in the horizon. Heading to the Kingston Ferry.
We passed this. Like boat junk yard or used boat lot. Lots of OLD boat.
You will not see this in Cincinnati.
I started seeing these signs. Again, you will not see this in Cincinnati.
Check out the trucks. They are packed in like sardines.
We had tickets for 7:55 but got there about 7:15. The 7:10 ferry had not left yet. Normally the motorcycles are loaded first.
but.... we ended up as the last ones on. Another random act of kindness.
He could have made us wait. Nice guy!!
This is looking out the back of the ferry. It reminded me of the scene in Topgun.
As we are about to leave (people already sitting in their cars),
I was going to get a pic of Larry and Ron at the back.
A lady got out of her car and asked if we wanted a group pic.
Of Course!! Wow another random act of kindness.
Off we go!!
We went thru a small neighborhood and this caught my eye. Pretty funny.
Crossing the bay. Gorgeous!!
Heading into Olympic National Park.
WOW!!! This is stunning.
Every mountain range we have seen on this trip has its own personality.
Next we are riding along Crescent Lake. Yep more water. Always beautiful.
If you have watch the movie series Twightlight,
you know that the city it takes place in is Forks, WA.
Well this truly exists.
The movie is about vampires. Pretty cute. hahaha
We made a stop for gas and to get a drink. Larry and I are standing out by the bikes waiting for Ron and a Forks police officer stops by. He said he was glad to see one of us was pretty smart. We asked why and he said because of the Honda (Ron rides a Honda and Larry/ Jean are on a Indian). He thought I rode the Honda. Hahaha we told him we are not the owner of it but Ron was. In the course of our chat, he suggested we go to Rialto Beach. So plans changed yet again and we headed there.
Good call!!!
Different than any other beach I have been too. Check out all the driftwood.
We wanted to touch the water and not get our boots wet.
Ron took a video. Pretty funny as we ran back.
Ron on the other hand
Got is whole foot in the water. Waterproof boots!!
Waves were coming in pretty strong.
When we left Forks to Rialto Beach, the temps went from 87-71.
When we left and got further from the coast, the temps went back up.
Check out these pine trees. All growth at the top. Made a pretty neat tunnel.
Cooler temps was short. We then circle the rest of Olympic National Park and head to Olympia to meet up with more RFTW family. BUT... as we continue, we are riding right along the ocean and we have a pretty good distance to go along the coast. Temp now have gone from 88-66. Can we please pull over so I (we) can get a jacket? There is no place to pull over. Just a straight road.
Well we are in luck. They are doing lots of road repair and have several places where the have traffic lights. YEAH!!!.... at the next red light.. quick get on the jackets.
Success!!!
Now for dinner in Olympia with the Slocum crew: Daniel, Catherine, Crysten and Brandon.
One thing I did fail to mention was the Ron failed his parallel parking today at lunch. He will need to practice and try again another day.
Destination: Olympia, WA
Miles: 350
Temps: 64-90
