October 5, 2022 - Rockland, ME
Today was a little overcast and about 55 degrees. We head up to Acadia National Park via Rt 1. The road had color but because of the skies being overcast, they were not as brilliant as the last few days.
Stopped in a little town for a break. Check out the place of business…..sign says:
Treasures and Trash Barn….. I think the “Trash” word is a better term.
The right side has sinks, bathtubs and I am sure that they may have a toilet….UGH!!
Near Bucksport, we crossed a river. Penobscot Narrows Bridge,
Not sure I have seen a bridge like this one.
This line is the bridge structure. All in one line. Pretty wild looking.
You can actually ride up in the tower.
Fun Fact:
A one-minute elevator ride will take you to one of the most unique views in Maine, a 360-degree panorama from 437 feet above the Penobscot River. Located atop the northern tower of the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge, the observatory gives visitors a spectacular look at mountains, lakes and Penobscot Bay.
Few more pics of the colors.
Look at the next 3 pics. They have something in common.
They all have the lobster buoys…. We have seen them on fence posts, buildings, ….
Almost to Bar Harbor and Arcadia park.
We had decided to go to Bar Harbor for lunch. As we approached the town, we saw a Norwegian cruise ship.
We should have turned around at that point. As we got into Bar Harbor, there were hundreds of people. We saw many shuttle boats coming from the ship. So the town was packed !!!!! We circled a few parking lots just to find a parking lot, and decided to go to a place outside of town. Best decision ever. We found this neat little place and the clam chowder was GREAT!!
Tide was out. Check out the dock.
We got to Cadillac Summit in Acadia National Park. Pics are a little dull since it was overcast but you can get the idea of the vastness of the mountain. There are so many islands around this park. These look like stepping stones. This is Bar Harbor.
Granite rock.
Heading down the hill. Few pics of us on the bikes.
Jamie and Jackie.
Larry and Jean.
Heading back to Rockland.
We cross bodies of water all the time. Going thru Belfast, we all see the name of this river is a little different. See if you can pronounce this one. :-)
Not much color, but a pretty neat tunnel.
Light rain the last 20 miles. We got very lucky this is all the rain we got.
Miles; 205
Temps: 55-65
