May 10, 2019 - Day 5 to Ontario

We got up today and the sun was shining.  What a beautiful day.  However, it was still foggy over Grand Canyon.  Our Helicopter flight got canceled.  What a bummer.  Here is what it looked like at the airport.
So we went to plan B.  Ron has never been to Hoover Dam, so lets go.  We had a beautiful ride for the next 2.5 hours.  Hope you enjoy the ride.

Very interesting cloud formation.  Looks like it is balancing on the mountains.
 Almost to the dam.
 Gorgeous  terrain.

The dam is used for flood and silt control, hydroelectric power, agricultural irrigation, and domestic water supply. These are some of the power lines as you approach the Dam.  Nearly half of the generated  electric power goes to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the city of Los Angeles, and other destinations in southern California; the rest goes to Nevada and Arizona.

This is standing on the dam looking at Lake Mead.
 Few fun facts:
Hoover Dam is 726 feet  high and 1,244 feet long at the crest.
Thickness  at the top 44 feet, thickness at the base 660 feet.
Notice the people on the top of the dam.  This gives you a perspective of the size.  Pictures do not do it justice.  If you ever get a change, check it out.

Looking straight down from the top in the middle.

This is looking from the dam out.  You will see a bridge.  This bridge took 10 years to build.

View from the bridge.  Pretty cool.
We leave the dam and head to Las Vegas.  This is our last stop on our way to Ontario.  A little fun  walking around.  Such a busy place, lots of people from all over the world.

 At Caesars Place
 Water show at the Bellagio

Stopped in Las Vegas

Temps: 55-77
Route: US64, I-40 W, US93
Miles: 363

We have seen a few pics from our friends joining us in Ontario.  Several have been seeing snow on the way.  Again, keep them in your thoughts as they head to Ontario.
