May 9, 2019 - Day 4 to Ontario

Wow what a wild day.  Sun, Rain, Wind 60 degrees, 38 degrees.....

It started out at 34 degrees when we woke up and the sun was up.  Beautiful day but cold, so lets dress warm.  Long johns were in order.  We all felt like snowmen.  Even though it was only 40 after we got dress, the sun was out, so we decided to lose the long johns but still layer.  Good call... Temps got up to about 60 by the time we got to Gallup which was about an hour down the road.  Another good day for pics.

Clouds were still hanging around but scenery was beautiful.  Pics do not do it justice.
Check out the white smoke in the middle.  Ron said that was the Indians sending us smoke signals.  It says "Haul ass before the rain comes!!".   We were going to get rain today just not sure when.

A stop in Gallup for gas and look at the weather.  More rain in front of us but not yet.  Let's ride

 Heading to Winslow AZ.  Beautiful...

Arizona has the neatest state lines sign.
We lose the rocks and back to flat land.  Clouds still there.... darn.

We stopped at the Corner of  Winslow Arizona.  This is from the Eagles song: Take it Easy.
Well, I'm a standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford...….
Remember the song?

We had lunch at a little ma and pop restaurant.  We notice  couples at tables next to us.  One was a Vietnam vet and the other a Korean vet.  We thanked them for their service.  Great people to talk to.

Remember the reason for our ride, to not forget our veteran past and present.  Whenever you see one, at any time, please go and shake their hand and thanks them for their service.  It only takes a few seconds of your time and that small gesture goes a long way to the men and women that served or are still serving today.

As we walk out, it is now starting to rain.  Rain gear back on.  :-(

Heading into Williams the terrain changes a lot.  We see pine trees but roads are still wet and now it is getting cold.  We are now heading to the Grand Canyons for a quick look.

We drove a good hour in the rain and the temps continues to drop.  Fire felt really good at the hotel as we pulled up.

We left the hotel and took a shuttle.  Amazing the people you meet.  We met another Vietnam vet.  He served 1974-78.  About the time of the end of the war.  Again we thanked him for his service and welcomed him home.  You should see the smile we got from them.  Please remember it only takes a few seconds.

We got to the Rim and were very disappointed.  The fog was so thick you could hardly see 5 feet below the walkway.  Larry and I talked about how beautiful it was and all the color.  Ron has not seen it and I was really disappointed.

Looks pretty bad.  So we decided to walk the 2.5 miles on the rim.  We saw a few elk. That was pretty cool but no consolation to seeing the Grand Canyon.

The sun started to come out and the fog finally started to disappear.  But it was now late in the day and the sun was going down so most of it was in the shade BUT you could at least see it.

Ron standing in he same spot from above.  ;-)

Tomorrow we are supposed to take a helicopter over the canyon. Sure hope it is sunny.  :-)

Stopped at Grand Canyon.

Temps: 38-60
Route: I-40W to AZ 64
Miles: 335

Continue to keep the riders in your thoughts.  Many are heading to Ontario.
