May 11, 2022 – Day 5 to Ontario
Sorry for not posting yesterday. There was no internet service in the Zion Park.
Forgot to tell you about dinner Tuesday night. Green River has only 3 restaurants. We walked to it since it was only about a 10 minute walk. When we arrived, it was a 30 minute wait. That was ok. We started talking to a couple from Florida, David and Lynn. They were traveling in a camper to a lot of the National Parks in Utah, Arizona,.... They got seated before we did. Then within a few minutes, the waitress came out and said David and Lynn have a large table and would like to have us join them. We had a great time and exchanged email addresses. So nice to see people are still showing acts of kindness.
No Rain today. So it is a beautiful day!!! It was 47. OK everyone gear up
Headed out I-70 and some back road to the destination of Zion National Park. Colors started as a sand color but as we rolled down the road the colors became more vibrant.
Something you do not see too often.
This look like a teepee.
Larry and Ron
This was a scenic viewpoint we pulled over for. It was a good stop.
We start heading across this big open area. We all guessed how far it was. It turned out to be 8 miles. Amazing you how far you can see.
This formation of rock is a black in color. Don't see this too much.
Head to Loa and got thru Fishlake National Forest
At the summit we tried to take a pic of the vastness. Amazing!!! Pics will next capture what we see.
This next pic looks like someone cut patterns of the hill.
Roads can go on forever. Feel like you will never get there
Ron made a comment that we really need to be careful with all the traffic. We do not want to get in the wrong lane. HA HA HA. We would go for miles and not see anyone.
Temps stayed 50 pretty much all day and guess what........ THE WIND IS BACK!!!!
Snow on top of mountain and the green alfalfa fields make pretty pic
Larry is always making comments about the formation of the rocks. LIke: that looks like a dog, look at that face .... This one has wrinkled skin.
Head to Panguitch for lunch. Cool little town.
We are looking for a place to eat and there are 4 sheriffs standing outside. Larry said the police and fireman always know the good places to eat. We go in and there are 7 sitting at a table for 12. Few minutes later 12 guys walk in. OOPS the waitress set the sheriffs where these 12 guys were supposed to sit. Sooooo the one of the 12, knows the main sheriff and starts harassing him. It goes on for several minutes and they finally get another table set. The waitress was just laughing. happens a lot in this small town. She goes past us and said “welcome to the shit show”. LOL
Big town. One light and it is only a flashing red one. Ha ha,
We made a stop for gas before going and meeting into Zion and met 2 Vietnam veterans.
They are visiting the national parks for 3 week. They have an interesting story. The two gentlemen served together in Vietnam. Several years went by and the one wanted to reach out to his friend. He looked up his name and found over 100 with that name. Eventually he got the right one. They have been getting together for years and vacationing together. One lives in Louisville and the other in Durango CO. The one gentleman talked a little about the effect of agent orange and the health issue it has caused him. But this has not let him slow down. He enjoys life!!! As we told him "Thank you for your service", they both got big smiles and had a resounding "you are welcome". They were very proud of there service.
Zion National Park is beautiful. Enjoy the pics !!!!
These are the pics as we drive to the lodge where we will be staying.
The boys are planning a strategy for tomorrow's hikes.
