May 12, 2022 - Day 6 to Ontario

 May 12, 2022 – Day 6 to Ontario

We got up today and the sun was shining.  What a beautiful day, but it was in the 40s. It did warm up to the 60s while we were walking.   Interesting sign in the window as we go for breakfast.

This is the site from the lodge.  How would you like to see this every morning?

Plan for the day is to walk to Scout Point.  It is about 2 miles up and pretty steep in several places. We will walk up 1500 feet.  Let’s start the hike.

We are the beginning of the path.

Let’s go.  We have to walk up to the point where you see the sky.

We are about ½ way up.   Good thing it is cool.

Part way up the first set of switchbacks,  Larry and Ron went up and I took their pic so you can get an idea.  They are by the red arrow. (sorry red arrow did not show on the post, but about 1/2 way up)

Here they are zoomed in.  Pretty far up.  It is amazing the height!!!

Continue the hike….

More switchbacks……ugh….

This is Walter's Wiggles….. There are 21 switches , kind of short but pretty steep

Looking down from the top.

View from the top…Scouts Point

Climbers going up to Angel’s Landing.  WE DID NOT DO THIS!!!

Little too steep for us.  Ron’s daughter and friend did this several months ago.

BUT they are in their 20s.

The red arrows shows hikers almost to the top…YIKES (sorry no arrow when I posted it)

Ron  and I decided to hike part way up the West Rim path.  We went about a half mile.

Arrow is Angel’s Landing.

This view was amazing…..

Heading down…Much easier on the breathing but tough on the legs.

Same switchbacks…

We reach the bottom. Round trip was about 3.5 hours and we walked about 5.3 miles.

Still early in the day so lets go on a short trail.  Riverside walk.

Sorry for so many pics but it was an incredible hike.  And the beauty was amazing.

Sooo we are now leaving and Ron suggests to ride the back side of Zion, to Kolob Reservoir.

Sure it is only 2:00, let's go. Soooo few more pics.

We started at 3000 feet and went to 8000 in 25 miles.  Temps were 66 at the bottom to 42 at the top.  Check out the snow.  It was beautiful.

We get to the reservoir and there is 1 boat.  And of course, Ron and Larry go over to see what they caught.  Lake has 4 different kinds of trout and they caught about 60 for the day ( this was high for them).  All catch and release.  The lake is about 55 feet.   Also it turns out they both served!!!!  Sorry no details.

Let's head down to dinner.

Absolutely breathtaking…..

Check this out.  It was at the place we went to eat.  Pretty crazy. 4 seater.

Hope you enjoyed the day.  Probably the most pics I have ever posted in one day (maybe).

It was fun… hope you enjoyed them.
